Lewis Hamilton Is Reimagining the Iconic Ferrari F40 with a Personal Touch — Meet the Future “F44”
The seven-time world champion is about to take his passion for Ferrari beyond the racetrack. On his very first day as a Ferrari driver, Lewis Hamilton posed in front of Enzo Ferrari’s historic home — standing proudly beside a classic F40. Now, that very model is serving as the inspiration for Hamilton’s own street-legal supercar project: the Ferrari F44.
That’s right — Hamilton isn’t just racing for the Scuderia. He’s also working on developing a unique Ferrari road car that will pay homage to the legendary F40 while incorporating his personal flair. The name “F44” nods both to the F40 and to Hamilton’s racing number, 44.
In an interview with Motorsport.com, Hamilton revealed:
“One of the things I really want to do is design a Ferrari. I want to make an F44.”
He added, “The base line will be an F40 — with a real gear shift. That’s what I’ll be working on over the next few years.”
While exact details about the F44 are still under wraps, early hints suggest it will likely maintain the F40’s timeless and elegant design language — but with a modern twist. Expect a hybrid powertrain under the hood and, confirmed by Hamilton himself, a manual transmission — something that’s become a rarity in today’s supercar world.
Rumors have been swirling for months that Ferrari has been considering an F40 tribute as part of its exclusive Icona series, following the footsteps of the Monza SP1 and SP2 (inspired by classic V12 barchettas) and the Daytona SP3 (a nod to Ferrari’s 1960s race prototypes).
While fans will have to wait a bit longer for more details, one thing’s for sure: the F44 has the potential to become a modern legend — especially with Hamilton’s vision and Ferrari’s legacy behind it.
