In honor of Mother’s Day in England, Lewis Hamilton paid tribute to both of his mothers with an Instagram post.
Hamilton is the son of Anthony Hamilton and Carmen Larbalestier, who split up when Lewis was only 2 years old. Eventually, his father remarried to Linda Hamilton, who became Lewis’s stepmother.
Carmen and Anthony maintained a healthy co-parenting relationship, and Lewis also got along with Linda, who would support him.”I want to celebrate these two beautiful women that have kept me going in life,” Hamilton wrote on Instagram.
“I’m always in awe of mothers. Selfless, loving, devoting and nurturing.”My mum would sit with me to study and even when I struggled, her patience gave me hope. My step mum always encouraged my creativity and was there for me on and off the track.
“When I raced in the rain, there would always be a warm fire and noodle soup back at the trailer. These are just a few of the million ways they’ve supported me I am forever grateful to them and to all the mothers out there.
“Please remember you are appreciated and loved. You are the light in dark times. Thank you for all you do, happy Mother’s Day.”
Throughout his racing career, Hamilton has not hesitated to attribute much of his success to his family, whether it was his mother’s support or his father’s work ethic in supporting his motorsport career.
Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has seemingly given him a new lease on life in F1 and re-energized him and his inner circle.”
It’s the first time in a long time that she is happy to see me racing, she is because I moved to Ferrari. In Fiorano, I asked her: ‘Are you happy?’ And she said yes,” he said. “And I said: ‘But how? You’re never happy when I’m on the track.’ Then we hugged.
“Hamilton typically has his family in his garage, with his father following him from race to race. His father, mother, and stepmother were all present for his Ferrari debut in Melbourne.
“My mum’s name deserves to live on,” Hamilton said. “I’m proud of the Hamilton name, but I’ve always felt it was important to honour my mum’s family too. This is something I’ve wanted to do for years.”Hamilton aims to keep his mother’s name a part of his “family’s story.”
