Vettel Cheers for Hamilton at Ferrari: “I’m Crossing My Fingers That He Wins the Championship”
Former Formula 1 star Sebastian Vettel has shown his support for longtime rival and friend Lewis Hamilton, who is beginning a new chapter with Ferrari. Despite once battling fiercely on track—especially during Hamilton’s dominant run with Mercedes—Vettel expressed genuine excitement about seeing the Brit take on the challenge of driving for the legendary Scuderia.
Vettel, who never quite found championship success during his own time at Ferrari, spoke candidly about the potential he sees in Hamilton’s move:
“It’s great to see him still on the grid, still having that influence and using it in a positive way,” Vettel said. “Naturally, I’m crossing my fingers that he wins the championship. But of course, Charles Leclerc is also in the fight, and I raced alongside him as well.”
Reflecting on his own tenure at Maranello, Vettel admitted that Hamilton’s dominance was a major obstacle:
“For me, it didn’t quite work out because Lewis was always there. So now, we’ll see how it goes for him. But yes, I’ve got my fingers crossed.”
The four-time world champion also praised Hamilton’s personality and authenticity:
“We’ve raced together for many years, we’ve always gotten along well, and he’s by far the most genuine driver on the grid right now.”
As for Ferrari’s chances this season, Vettel remains cautiously optimistic:
“It’s a strong lineup, no doubt. But it takes a lot to be in the fight during the final two races and challenge for the championship. We’ll see how it plays out — it’s going to be tight, but I wouldn’t rule anyone out.”
Vettel’s words mark yet another touching moment in the evolving friendship between two of the most iconic drivers of their generation — a rivalry once fueled by fierce competition, now transformed into mutual admiration and support.
